Assistant Staff

The Advanced Undersea Systems and Technology Group develops innovative undersea and undersea-enabled capabilities for transition to operational systems of the US Navy and other Department of Defense (DoD) sponsors.
Focus areas include acoustic and non-acoustic sensors, undersea networks, autonomous systems, and advanced signal processing algorithms.
The group performs rigorous systems analyses, develops system architectures, and builds prototypes to demonstrate the viability and effectiveness of new concepts, capabilities, and processing techniques.
In addition, the group provides undersea domain and technology expertise to inform and motivate novel cross-domain concept development.

Job Description

We are looking for an Assistant Staff member who will work with experienced group members to learn about the undersea mission and help develop emerging technology and quantify performance for state-of-the-art systems.
The group is considering applicants interested in one or more of the following areas:
machine learning and artificial intelligence, sonar or RF modeling, data analysis and visualization, signal processing, and acoustic or RF system design.
The successful candidate must be versatile and willing to work all aspects of a project including, but not limited to design, modeling, data analysis, testing, integration, and system engineering.

Required Skills

  • BS in Applied Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Geophysics, Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Physical Oceanography, or related technical field
  • MATLAB or Python

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience or coursework in any of the following areas:
    numerical analysis/methods, optimization, estimation, data assimilation, statistical data analysis, geophysical fluid dynamics, underwater acoustics, RF systems
  • Experience with parallel computing and high performance computing (HPC) systems
  • Experience with a machine learning or computer vision toolbox (PyTorch, OpenCV, Matlab Toolboxes, etc)
  • Working knowledge of version control (SVN or Git), Linux command line, shell scripting

C/C++, Fortran or other compiled language
